Asia Cup: Youngest IPL crorepati Vaibhav Suryavanshi features in India U19’s XI vs Pakistan

After creating history in the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) mega auction, Vaibhav Suryvanshi made it to the India’s playing XI for the Under1-9 Asia Cup 2024. Notably, India are taking on Pakistan in their opening game of the tournament on Saturday, November 30 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai.

Suryavanshi etched his name in the history books as he became the youngest player to be sold in the history of IPL auction held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The 13-year-old was bought for a whopping INR 1.10 crore by Rajasthan Royals (RR) after an intense bidding war with Delhi Capitals (DC).

Hence, the Bihar-born cricketer became the youngest player in the T20 extravaganza to be sold for over INR 1 crore. In Rajasthan, he will be seen working with one of the finest minds of Indian cricket, Rahul Dravid, who returned to the Royals as their head coach for the upcoming season.

Suryavanshi recently hit the fastest hundred by an Indian in Under-19 Tests, achieving the milestone against the Australia Under-19 team at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai in October. The right-handed batter reached the magical three-figure mark in just 58 balls in his maiden red-ball match for the India Under-19 team.

Earlier this year, Suryavanshi also became the fourth-youngest Indian to make his debut in a recorded first-class match at the age of 12 years and 284 days. The child prodigy stepped out to play for Bihar in the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 game against Mumbai at the Moin-ul-Haq Stadium in Patna.

Following his record IPL deal, Vaibhav’s father Sanjiv Suryavanshi was extremely proud of his son and as he called him as the son of entire ‘Bihar.’

Vaibhav impressed Rajasthan’s batting coach during trials

“Woh ab sirf humra bituwa nahi pura Bihar ka bituwa hai (He is not just my son now but entire Bihar’s son),” Sanjiv told PTI. “My son has worked hard. At the age of 8 years, he excelled at U-16 district trials. I would take him for his cricket coaching to Samastipur and then take him back,” he recalled the days of hardships.

“Not just investment, it’s big investment. (Aapko kya bataye humne toh apna zameen tak bech diya. Abhi bhi halat pura sudhra nahi (I have sold my land. Financial issues are still there).

Further speaking ahead, Sanjiv shared how Rajasthan had called his son for batting trial in Nagpur where he smashed three sixes.

“Rajasthan Royals had called him for trials in Nagpur. Vikram Rathour sir (batting coach) gave a match situation where he had to score 17 in an over. Bituwa ne 3 chakka mara. Trials mein aat chakka aur char chauwaa mara (He smashed three sixes. At trials, he hit eight sixes and four fours). He just wants to play cricket and nothing else. A few years back he loved Doraemon, not anymore,” the father claimed proudly.

Having bagged the record IPL deal, it remains to be seen how Vaibhav performs under massive media scrutiny leading up to his IPL debut.
